The holiday season used to be about exchanging gifts with friends and family, but now a buncha musicians are looking to stuff our stockings. Last week we told you about Bruce Hornsby’s holiday gift, and this week we’ve found some more presents. The boys in Cold War Kids bring good tidings in the form of a free six song EP from 2005. Instead of coal, R.E.M. delivered us a fun cover of Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody. And Stereogum decked the halls with holiday themed MP3s from Surfjan Stevens and Blitzen Trapper. Way too many shitty Christmas puns; bring on January already.
But we’ve also got a slew of non-holiday shows for ya, so dig in…
- The Ultimate Bootleg Experience shares an early Elton John SBD
- Here’s an interesting compilation of trance-inspired remixes of The Doors
- This week’s Music Hole megapost brings us Devo, The Ramones and Yes
- Pete from Ickmusic finally made his Sirius radio debut
- Talkin’ About My Revolutions takes us back 30 years for some classic Elvis Costello
- Bands That Jam shares a recent Outformation show
- We’re happy to finally add a Men At Work bootleg to our collection
- Guns ‘N Roses rocked a parking lot full of 45,00 fans in Caracas back in ’92
And, finally, if you’re looking for something completely different, feel free to check out some live Manu Chao
