My Morning Jacket Continues To Dig Deep For Setlists

My Morning Jacket’s European Tour continued last night at De Oosterpoort En De Stadsschouwburg in Groningen, Netherlands; where the HT fave’s fans helped create a spectacular setlist through the Spontaneous Curation Series. For the third show in a row, MMJ loaded the set with rarities, making us extremely excited for what lies ahead this summer.

The title track from 2001’s At Dawn saw its first play of 2012 to open the show and led into another 2012 debut – The Dark off the band’s debut album The Tennessee Fire. Both albums were well represented on this evening as rarely-played classics The Bear and War Begun from The Tennessee Fire made the set as did At Dawn tracks X-Mas Curtain and Strangulation, neither of which had been performed previously this year. Fan favorites I Will Sing You Songs, Dancefloors and Steam Engine also were played last night, which along with repertoire staple One Big Holiday, gave the audience a big taste of 2003’s It Still Moves

Check out this jaw-dropping (for MMJ fans at least) setlist…

Set: At Dawn, The Dark, Holdin’ On To Black Metal, You Wanna Freak Out, Wonderful, The Bear, Circuital, Xmas Curtain, Lay Low, War Begun, I Will Sing You Songs, Anytime, Dancefloors, Steam Engine

Encore: Strangulation, It Beats For You, Victory Dance, One Big Holiday

Out of the five tunes MMJ is most likely to play every night – One Big Holiday, Golden, Gideon, Magheetah and Off The Record – incredibly, only One Big Holiday was performed in Groningen. The band has delivered on the Spontaneous Curation Series thus far, with fans digging deep into the nooks and crannies of My Morning Jacket’s catalog to offer exciting suggestions every night. On Friday, the Kentucky-based band plays the long-running Hurricane Festival in Schessel, Germany.
