Neil Young and Crazy Horse Reveal New Album Details

Slowly but surely our excitement level for the Neil Young and Crazy Horse comeback continues to grow. After the stunning 37 minute jam Young and his longtime backing band unveiled in January made us thirsty for the ensemble’s live improvisations, this evening Rolling Stone let the new album cat out of the bag getting us all riled up for Americana. The new album, which is set for a June 5th release, brings back the classic lineup of Neil, Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina and Pancho Sampedro for the first time in over 15 years and marks the first Crazy Horse-tagged album since 2003’s Greendale.

The first of two Crazy Horse albums in the works, Americana features covers of what Rolling Stone calls “classic American folk songs.” Neil Young and Crazy Horse tackle traditional favorites Gallow’s Pole (yes, the one Led Zeppelin made famous), Tom Dooley, This Land Is Your Land and She’ll Be Coming Around The Mountain as well as a few curveballs such as God Save The Queen and High Flyin’ Bird.

Here’s the full tracklist…

“Oh Susannah”
“Clementine
”
“Tom Dooley”
“

“Travel On

“Wayfarin’ Stranger

“God Save The Queen”

A press release explains the connection, “”What ties these songs together is the fact that while they may represent an America that may no longer exist. The emotions and scenarios behind these songs still resonate with what’s going on in the country today with equal, if not greater impact nearly 200 years later. The lyrics reflect the same concerns and are still remarkably meaningful to a society going through economic and cultural upheaval, especially during an election year. They are just as poignant and powerful today as the day they were written.”

There’s no news on the second Crazy Horse album, which we hope will contain originals, Young mentioned in interviews earlier this year. And no word on a potential tour yet.
