New Deal Drummer Likes SciUNTZology
If ya got an E-meter, ya better get it on and get it cranked up: Jambands and their fans have long been focused on the mind, body and spirit, but we never thought we’d see the day when the Church of Scientology permeated the scene.
Imagine our utter surprise this morning when we heard that Darren Shearer, the silly good drummer for The New Deal and its side project, The Join, is not only a practicing Scientologist, he’s the executive director of the Church’s Mission of Riverdale in Toronto, which will enjoy the grand opening of its Life Improvement Centre later this month. Who’s got my heady Body Thetans?
A simple Google search leads us to Shearer’s Scientology Service Completions, and we’d love to know what bandmate Jamie Shields thinks about the Dynamic Sort Out Assessment, the Havingness Rundown and the Route to Infinity Course. But we’re guessing he’d have a little problem with Shearer closing each show with this missive: “Just remember, we’re the Church of Scientology! Thank you for coming, Xenu owns your face, and don’t forget to visit the merch table!”
There’s no official word about whether the rotating lineup of The Join will feature the Cruise/Travolta Duo on the upcoming December mini-tour.

They can keep the ‘Sci’ and the “Ology’.
I’ll have myself two helpins of the ‘Untz.’
Cannot wait for The New Deal next Friday in Ithaca. Haven’t seen them since Bisco last year.
Lookin forward to it.
If Ace suddenly disappears, we’ll know why.
I mean, Chick Corea is a scientologist. That’s why his nasty band was called “Return to Forever.” And I think we can all agree that he brings the heat. So practice it if you want to practice it….if it means jams like Chick, then dang.
ace, how bout’ an in rainbows review? what did u think?
SciUNTZology…yer hilarious!
I hate Tom Cruise. But Darren is the man.
mind blown
