New Grateful Dead Road Trips: Spectrum ’82

For the next Road Trips release, Grateful Dead legacy manager David Lemieux has picked a run from 1982 to draw from, an underrated year from the band that hasn’t gotten much love on previous archival releases. Road Trips Vol. 4 No. 4 features the Dead’s complete April 6, 1982 performance from The Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA as well as some gems from the previous night at the same venue.

The Dead had a knack for throwing down in Philadelphia and this run is no exception. While there’s plenty of highlights from the 6th (a stellar Shakedown, standout take on Lost Sailor > Saint of Circumstance and a tear-jerking Morning Dew), we’re happy that this release includes the Bertha, Playin’ > Ship of Fools > Playin’ second set-opening sequence from the previous night as a soundboard copy of that show doesn’t circulate. There’s no bonus disc for this release, so thankfully Lemieux and Rhino made the decision to sweeten the pot with the inclusion of material from the 5th.

Road Trips Vol. 4 No. 4 is available for pre-order through the Dead.net store and will run you $23.98 with copies expected to ship on August 1 just in time for Jerry’s birthday. Head to the Listening Party page to hear the Deep Elem, Shakedown and Morning Dew from this release.

  1. Cover art keeps getting better. Denver 73 was kick-ass. Good show selection in my opinion. Looking forward to spinning this…
