Phish returned to the Mullins Center in Amherst, MA this evening for the second of two shows at the 10,600-person capacity UMASS basketball arena.
Ride Captain Ride came off of the shelf in the opening stanza, the first time the quartet has played the Blues Image one-hit wonder since December 10, 1999. The first set also featured a must-hear version of Stash complete with Dave’s Energy Guide teasing from guitarist Trey Anastasio. Trey busted out his megaphone for Fee once again and the song’s patient “harmonics jam” segued impressively into Time Turns Elastic.
Set Two kicked off with Seven Below and unlike the quick, four-minute version of Seven Below from the Greek, this one featured an expansive jam and made it past the ten minute mark. After a chain of heavy rotation tunes following Seven Below, the band reached deep in the repertoire for five tour debuts in a row – Lizards, Brother, Roggae, Taste and Waste – before finishing with Bowie.
