Phish has just posted a note on their official website thanking the dozens of companies that helped them throw Wednesday’s benefit for Vermont Flood Relief Efforts and also mentioned that the show in Essex Junction raised in excess of $1.2 million (!!) for the cause.

Keep in mind that it will take years to rebuild everything that was damaged by the remnants of Hurricane Irene, so individuals can still donate to The Waterwheel Foundation. Be sure to specify that you would like your contribution to go towards the relief effort.

Don’t forget, the $1.2 million figure doesn’t even include the economic impact resulting from out-of-staters spending money on the way to and from the show. Phish and the group’s fans are often the butt of the mainstream media’s jokes, such as what happened when Vermont independent weekly Seven Days’ writer Lauren Ober took aim at the fanbase with a poorly timed and misinformed op-ed/satire piece. We’ve watched as the fanbase and the group itself rallied around the state of Vermont and we hope today’s news about the massive amount of money raised will change some minds about the heart of the Phish Community.
