Phish To Play Fenway Park On May 31, Add 3rd Jones Beach Show
After months of rumor and speculation, it has become official – Phish will play Boston’s Fenway Park. Fenway held it’s first concerts in recent times in 2003, shortly after new ownership took over the Red Sox operations. Since 2003, the park has hosted pairs of concerts from: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Jimmy Buffett, The Rolling Stones, The Police, Dave Matthews Band & Neil Diamond. DMB is returning this year with Willie Nelson as the supporting act, these shows are scheduled for the two days preceding Phish.

Some alarmists are abuzz thinking that Phish’s long-standing “no stadiums” policy is now officially torn up under their new direction of Red Light Management. Keep in mind, that Fenway is one of the smallest major-league ballparks in the country and at full baseball capacity actually holds LESS people than Alpine Valley in Wisconsin (a shed Phish will be playing two nights at this spring as well). It’s also worth pointing out that Phish has also played at Key Span Park in Brooklyn (2 shows in 2004) as well as Hershey Park Stadium in Pennsylvania (1996 and 2000).
I am the Boston local here on Hidden Track and I could not be more excited.
Tickets go on sale to the public on Saturday, April 18th at 10:00am. Tickets can be purchased online or charge by phone at 800.514.3849. Tickets may also be purchased at the Orpheum Box Office. In addition to the Fenway show, the band has also added a third night to their current sold out Jones Beach run on June 2nd. Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, April 17th at 10:00am, they can be purchased online or charge by phone 877.598.8694 or at select Blockbuster outlets. If any tickets are still available, they can be purchased at the Capital One Theatre at Westbury Box Office beginning Saturday, April 18th. So with these additional dates added, which ones will you still be hitting?

For me, this is peanut butter and jelly. Since my first Sox game on 9.18.88 http://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores/boxscore.php?boxid=198809180BOS the subsequent 30+ trips to the historic yard now rolling into 49 Phish shows this is a chrysalis event unlike any other for me. Batter up!

I just don’t get anyone not excited about this. It is NOT a stadium show, per se. It’s historic and fun. Why must everyone find a way to bust on Phish. They play small venues and people bitch that they cant get tickets. They play large venues and people bitch they are selling out. They can do nothing right in jaded fans eyes. This summer run is a perfect blend of venues. Cheap face value ticket prices. Free mp3s from Hampton. What the fuck does everyone want, Phish to play their back yard?

Does anyone know how the seating will be set up? If I remember correctly, Springsteen had seats on the field and DMB the last time they were there did not.
This would definitely add to the number of available tickets and may make the venue larger than Alpine in terms of capicity.
