Play By Numbers For moe. in Winston-Salem

As we reported yesterday, jam stalwarts moe. planned to play an “audibles show” without the use of a pre-planned setlist in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. What they did use was a chart listing 27 songs with a number before each tune. The group would use hand signals to communicate what number, ie. song, they would perform next out of the 27 options on the list.

During the first set, moe. offered a couple of “jam sandwiches” by performing Buster in the middle of 32 Things and doing the same by inserting Sticks and Stones in the middle of Waiting For The Punchline. In set two, the jam band busted out Al Schnier’s Backwoods for the first time in over four years and used Brent Black as a launching point and conclusion for the second half of the set.

Let’s hope last night’s show inspired the band to continue to work without a pre-planned setlist once in a while as that keeps things fresh both for them and the fans. This evening moe. is set to play Asheville’s Orange Peel.
