Here’s a tip for bands that want my ticket money: If you’ve got a B3 in your band, I’ll probably love your shit. In fact, I tend to categorize those people that don’t enjoy a screaming organ in the mix as Communist sympathizers.
I don’t profess to know much about the Big Organ Trio, but based on a few videos I just stumbled upon on a popular video-sharing site, I dig. I dig. They seem to me like a child conceived on the road with the recent Medeski Martin & Wood and Greyboy Allstars tour. Bernie Bauer and Brett McConnell provide an excellent rhythm (though McConnell’s drumming does over-untz untz on occasion), and Mike Mangan’s skills on the B3 are damn serious — kid can play backwards.
