Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Gomez Gives Options

Is it possible that a band who’s over 15 years into their career such as Gomez can still be somewhat of an underrated and under-appreciated band? Birthed in the post Brit-pop movement of the late ’90s that spawned acts like Travis, Radiohead, and The Verve, Gomez looked more towards American music than their contemporaries, embracing the sounds of blues-driven psychedelic guitar rock and roots music, while featuring the distinctive vocals of Ian Ball, Ben Ottewell and Tom Gray.

For their seventh studio album, the members of Gomez, who now reside in variations parts around the globe – Brighton, England, Brooklyn and Los Angeles, utilized the power of the internet to write new material creating an online hub where they posted demos that each band member could modify as they saw fit. Recording over 50 tracks during the process, the band got together in Charlottesville, VA for two recording sessions, walking away with the ten track Whatevers On Your Mind, which was quietly released late last month via ATO Records. Let’s check out the comic book inspired video for the album’s lead track, Options…
