Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Jack’s SXSW Pop Up

As the last of the empty bottles of Shiner Bock are cleaned up and the dust begins to settle on SXSW 2011, we can start to take a look back at just what went down in Austin, TX. Of the popular themes from this year was the “pop-up” show, as numerous artists played surprise gigs around town at locations tweeted just hours or minutes before they where set to happen. One of the more high profile of these shows occurred in a parking lot, where the Third Man Records Rolling Record Store was parked as label founder Jack White emerged from inside to the delight of the crowd.

The pop-up performance served not only to help christen the debut of  his mobile record store, but also to introduce his latest signing,  Seasick Steve. Before turning things over to 60-year-old blues singer, White strapped on a guitar for an all too brief, two-song performance that included the White Stripes’ Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground as well a tribute to one of Texas’ native sons, Buddy Holly, with a take on Not Fade Away.

Let’s check out White’s version of one of Holly’s signature tunes…
