… a taste for progressive leftfield electronic music? Does it get better then that?
Today’s edition of Pullin’ ‘Tubes features The Bad Plus‘s live take on Aphex Twin‘s IDM classic, Flim (from the Come To Daddy EP). This beautifully shot video profiles both the virtuoso song-writing skills of Richard D. James and Dave King‘s translation of slippery jungle-based abstract drum programming.
Originally recorded for The Bad Plus’ major label debut album, These Are the Vistas, Flim represents one of three ambitious pop covers on the album that helped them quickly plant a flag in the post-modern jazz universe, enabling the trio to avoid traditional “jazz” classification (the two other covers being Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit and Blondie’s Heart of Glass). Any way you cut it, this clip’s inspired stuff from one of today’s more inspiring fusion acts.
