Pullin’ ‘Tubes: ScarYo

With the runaway success story of She & Him last year, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that another singer and actress duo has popped up in 2009. As the story goes, after his harsh break up back in 2006, New Jersey-bred singer-songwriter Pete Yorn’s sleepless nights led him to an epiphany of recording an album inspired by those made by French musician Serge Gainsbourg and actress Brigitte Bardot in the late ’60s.

For his musical muse Yorn turned to whom he considered the modern day version Bardot, the sublimely sexy – Scarlett Johansson and headed into the studio to record. The duo emerged with Break Up, an album consisting of eight of Yorn’s lovelorn originals and a cover of Big Star’s I Am The Cosmos – which hits stores on September 8.

Sure you may be a bit wary of this collaboration after ScarJo’s disaster of an album of Tom Waits covers, but if the first single is any indication, this record is going to be redeem her in a big way and quite possibly bring Yorn back to the critical success he enjoyed from his  debut Musicforthemorningafter.
