Pullin’ ‘Tubes: The Frames Turn 20

Over the last few years Glen Hansard has been riding the tidal wave of success that followed in the footsteps of the 2007 movie Once. The unexpected popularity of the musical-drama, which he starred in as well as wrote the majority of the music for, resulted in formation of The Swell Season with his co-star Markéta Irglová. The band, who has been touring relentlessly, forced Hansard’s full-time band The Frames to take a bit of an extended hiatus as The Swell Season took on a life of its own.

The Irish folk-rock act, who are wildly popular in their homeland charting three number one albums, have left a profound impact on the music scene there. The Frames have played scattered dates over the last few years, but recently returned to the road to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The Frames will close out a two-night stand at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco tonight, and will wrap up their US tour tomorrow night with a gig at the Avalon Ballroom in Los Angeles.
