Pullin’ ‘Tubes: The Rise Of Phoenix
It’s taken us awhile, but it seems like if you have a music blog you’re almost required to do a requisite post on the buzz band Phoenix. These guys seemed to virtually explode out of nowhere over the last few months – despite the fact they’ve already released a handful of albums – peaking with a three song performance on Saturday Night Live. All this in anticipation of the released of their new album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix which hit stores last week, and one that I’ve been enjoying quite a bit lately.

The guys in Phoenix have quite the pedigree getting their start as the live backing band for fellow country mates Air, while guitarist Laurent Brancowitz had previously been in a band with the guys that went on to form Daft Punk. The band produces a unique blend of accessible dance-y, electro-rock that’s not too far off from Franz Ferdinand, but a lot more synth-y and songs that will probably be ubiquitous this summer. Let’s check out the video for Lisztomania…
Phoenix will kick off a brief US tour with their debut performance at Bonnaroo where their set has been moved from Cafe Where to the much larger That Tent where they hit the stage at 11:30 PM
