Radiohead Pays Tribute to Drum Tech at First Show Back

Radiohead returned to the stage tonight nearly a month after a stage collapse in Toronto led to the death of drum tech Scott Johnson and a delay of the tour. For this evening’s performance at Les Arenes in Nimes, France, the Brits offered the live debut of a track from 2000′s Kid A and paid tribute to Johnson as part of an unprecedented third encore.

Thom Yorke and Co. kicked off the concert with Lucky, the first time the tune has opened one of their shows since 1998. A major change was made to the tour’s set design as the moving screens above the band were now stationary and a giant LED screen was nowhere to be found. For the first song of the first encore, Radiohead dusted off Treefingers, a song from Kid A which had never been performed live. Also of note, the first encore also featured the second Videotape of the lengthy King of Limbs tour.

Treefingers is from Hail to the Thief. They played it live numerous times on the Hail to the Thief tour. Hasn’t been played lately, though.
