Right Now: KPFA Grateful Dead Marathon
Each year, David Gans puts together a 16-hour music marathon featuring tons of killer Grateful Dead and Dead-related recordings for KPFA as a benefit for the listener-sponsored radio station in Berkeley. This year’s KPFA Grateful Dead Marathon started at 9AM PST and will continue until 1AM PST over the air locally and via KPFA.org, nugs.net, and gdradio.net.
Gans, who hosts the long-running Grateful Dead Hour radio program, always gets a number of unheard gems from the vault to use for the marathon. So far, he’s busted out the Box of Rain > Scarlet > Fire from the Crimson, White and Indigo upcoming archival release we told you about earlier this week and most of the second set from September 11, 1985. Over the next 14 hours look for cuts from the Furthur tour, tracks from the soon-to-be-released Road Trips Vol. 3 No. 2 and a live performance by Peter Rowan.
To find out the details on what tracks have been played so far, head over to Gans’ blog for a complete playlist. You can pledge your support to KPFA online or by calling 510-848-5732 or 1-800-439-5732.
