Rolling Stones Archival Release: L.A. Friday ’75

The Rolling Stones Archive site has been releasing old Stones shows at a fast and furious pace. Hot on the heels of The Brussels Affair and Hampton Coliseum comes L.A. Friday ’75 featuring the final performance of the Rolling Stones’ five night residency at the Los Angeles Forum in July 1975.

Taking place on Sunday, July 13th, 1975, Rolling Stones Archive has kept the “L.A. Friday” title from long-circulating bootlegs of this performance despite the mention of the incorrect day of the week. However, thanks to caressing from award-winning engineer and mixer Bob Clearmountain, this release sounds so much better than the unauthorized recordings that have made the rounds. Highlights include riveting takes on Angie, You Gotta Move and Midnight Rambler as well as Ron Wood’s solo in Wild Horses.

This show was part of the band’s Tour of the Americas, the Stones’ first with new guitarist Ronnie Wood. Along with Rolling Stones founding members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts, the group took Wood, Ian Stewart, Billy Preston, Ollie E. Brown and Trevor Lawrence out on the road with them. Preston, a big star in his own right, even got a segment as front man at each show including takes on That’s Life and Outta Space.
