Pitchfork today posted a double dose of dip-dappin’ news from the Sharon Jones camp, and if youse’ve been reading this here rag since inception, you know how much we love the struttin’ n’ cluckin’ sassmouth Queen of Funk.

The Female James Brown has announced a slew of tour dates, including an early October show at the world famous Apollo Theater (read on for dates). But what else has Ms. Jones been up to while The Dap-Kings are shuffling off with legendary strumpet Amy Winehouse? She’s gonna be in pictures:

Jones will play a small role as a soul singer (quite a stretch) in the forthcoming flick The Great Debaters, directed by and starring Denzel Washington. It’s scheduled for a Christmas Day release. And, because Denzel knows on which side his bread is buttered, he’s pegged Sharon to contribute a few tracks to the film’s soundtrack.

I’ll be in Harlem for sure, and I’ll be at that Denzel flick on opening night. Wild horses couldn’t drag me away from watching Sharon Jones ask all kinds of rhetorical questions through song. Slade Sohmer
