Show Must Go On For Coheed & Cambria After Bassist Allegedly Sticks Up Pharmacy

Some musicians relax before a show by chatting with friends and family, others play basketball or engage in another form of physical activity, but we can’t say we’ve heard of any musicians doing what Coheed and Cambria bassist Michael “Mic” Todd allegedly did before his band was set to open for Soundgarden at Great Woods on Sunday – rob a local pharmacy.

Hours before Coheed and Cambria’s set, Todd went to a Walgreen’s in nearby Attleboro, MA and allegedly “demanded Oxycontin and threatened pharmacists with a fake bomb” according to the Boston Globe. Todd got six bottles of pain pills and took off in a cab for the venue. A passerby told cops that he saw Todd get into a cab and the police were able to trace the cab to Great Woods (now known as the Comcast Center) where they took the bassist into custody. At this point, Coheed and Cambria guitar tech – and local native – Rob Gil sprung into action and learned all the bass parts from the songs the band were looking to perform later that evening. Gil filled in and C&C’s set went off as planned despite the bizarre circumstances.

Coheed and Cambria have enlisted longtime collaborator Wes Styles to play bass on their remaining tour dates. After the run the group will make a decision about who will fill the role in the future. Here’s an official statement from Coheed and Cambria’s official Tumblr page

Michael Todd was arrested today on what we consider very serious charges and therefore he will not be finishing up the current tour.  Wes Styles, long time member of the Coheed family will take on bass duties starting tomorrow for the remaining dates. No shows will be canceled.

We are surprised to say the least and will address the situation with Michael after the tour. For now, we just want to have a great time out here and finish with some killer shows in Boston, Poughkeepsie, Quebec City and Halifax.

  1. On nightly news, they interviewed the cab driver that picked up Mic. And the following conversation ensued:

Cab driver: Where are you heading?
    Mic: Great Woods
Cab driver: What’s going on the there?
Mic: I have business to take care of.

LOL, never got to take care of business. And furthermore, why in the Hell would this idiot be dropped off at the tour bus area? Why not at the edge of lot and hope to sneak in.

I have a feeling this is the last C&C will see of this guy as he’s apparently already had issues with band.

  2. I was in the photo pit for the show last night and had never seen C&C so I didn’t know what their bassist looked like, nor that the full-time bassist was not performing. I assumed the guy playing bass was their bassist and to his credit, I would not have known he hadn’t been playing in the band for years. He put his foot up on the monitor and had a few solid rocking stances… he brought some stage presence to the show.
