Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra are about to take the stage in Paris at La Maroquinerie but due to Palmer’s illness which has made her unable to sing, the prolific tweeter went to Twitter to ask her followers to step up and sing at the show tonight. The karaoke style show will have a crowdsourced fan singing each song. Palmer tweeted explaining that those who want to sing had best know the lyrics, but that if cue cards or smartphones are needed she’ll let it slide. The gig is supposed to start any minute know, so keep an eye on her Twitter account (@AmandaPalmer) to see how this turns out.
brutally sick. voice literally gone. just had a long back & forth about canceling paris tonight. going to do it, but it may be a mime show.
FOR REAL. RT @: To all the french fans going to the gig tonight : study your lyrics, tonight we’re @ ‘s voice :)
I’m not kidding. you might get some fan-oriented live karaoke action tonight.
we are buying poster board. I will be a human karaoke machine. if you’re in line tonight, I may pull you to write the French translations.
just sing RT @ Can I do anything for you ? I’m in Paris and coming to the show !
I am DEAD SERIOUS – if any of you Parisians think you can get through an entire AFP/dolls song, BRING IT. we will play. get ready….
…and seeing as I’ve resorted to it in the past, I’m fine with you using cheat-sheets/iPhones to survive. but BASICALLY know your shit.
by 7:30 should be plenty RT @ What time is early enough?
that’s the plan. RT @ Perhaps you could crowdsource a singer? One for each song?
Palmer stirred controversy earlier on her tour when she crowdsourced musicians at each show, initially offering only hugs and beer as compensation. After a considerable amount of backlash, Palmer – whose Kickstarter album project raised over $1 million – agreed to pay the volunteering musicians. In a series of tweets she also addressed why the band couldn’t afford (literally) to cancel the concert.
wow, fascinating watching people argue whether its moral to watch a sick artist on stage. also, no joke, canceling one single show…
…would financially devastate an already devastated tour. canceling BLOWS for everyone. I’d rather get up there sick & improvise. WHY NOT.
in better news, one nap, extremely hot shower, tea deluge and endless vocal gymnastics later, my voice is back at 20%. that’s something.
i will pay them in hugs, plague. RT @ if the crowd are going to be your voice instead of you, does this mean you need to pay them?
just took a poll of the first 100 Parisians in line. none of then actually want to sing. this karaoke night be difficult. they need drinks.
