Stormy Mondays: Hard-Edged Jams

This week’s Stormy Monday is a selection of hard rocking material floating around for free on the internet. The opening track is a sample from the upcoming Europe ‘72 set from the Grateful Dead, a great Playing In The Band from April 14, 1972. I’ve always been especially fond of Playing’s from this era because they had moved beyond the very limited scope of  versions from ’71 but had yet to explode into the epics of ’73 and ’74 – instead, all that energy was packed into an intense 10 minutes or so (in general).

Next up is Hot Tuna with guest Steve Kimock chunking out a Funky #7 in December of 2010 at the Fur Peace Ranch. Also from December of last year is the Warren Haynes Band doing River’s Gonna Rise at their debut performance at the Christmas Jam. Finally, from Moe’s Alley in October 2010, the Mother Hips blaze through a great version of Been Lost Once. Turn it up loud to bother the neighbors and as always, enjoy!
