This week we’re featuring a single hour-long track from Groundtruther, the name of guitar maestro Charlie Hunter and avant-garde jazz drummer Bobby Previte’s on-again, off-again collaboration. The pair has released two deep groove recordings, each one with a special guest who tends to flavor the whole outing.
Live performances, always completely improvised, often also include a third player: DJ Logic and DJ Olive, among others, just as frequently (which isn’t frequent at all) as the duo performs. In this case, Philly’s sax man Greg Osby joined the pair at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2005. It’s a spacious and incredibly thick creation with dozens of different flavors and textures melting and overlapping, including some really beautiful passages. It’s perfect music for a long walk or drive. Enjoy!

First off, Groundtruther is an awesome band name. Nothing beats a great band name. But this sounds awesome, Dan…Osby certainly provided a great sax to the Phil & Friends lineup, and he sounds great with these two giants.
wow – this sounds really interesting. Gonna have to check it out. Charlie Hunter is amazing.
