Strong Fan Backlash Over $100 Dead Tickets
I haven’t seen much written about The Dead’s $100 ticket prices by journalists, but the fanbase couldn’t be angrier. Deadheads have taken to internet mailing lists and message boards to air their grievences. Most seem to understand that other ’60s relics charge similar prices for tickets, but expected the band to offer more reasonable pricing to their loyal fans.
One sassy Deadhead took her complaint straight to the viral video world. If you’re at work, make sure you turn down your speakers because this video features plenty of profanity, but is hilarious…

Around noon, I tried to help a friend purchase tickets through The Dead’s online presale and I haven’t seen a ticketing site crash so badly in years. It took us both 30 minutes to attempt to put tickets in our virtual basket. Eventually we received the message that no tickets for the band’s MSG concert remained. Not only that, Consider It Dan – The Dead’s VIP ticket vendor – has already sold out of the $350 “High Time” packages for the show at MSG. So while most of my Deadhead friends are complaining and not purchasing tickets, somebody certainly is. Did you buy tickets today?

I am passing on the shows. Yes, a hundred bucks is absolutely ridiculous. I imagine the Dead smirking when the Eagles ransacked their fans, but I guess that the mindset has changed for them. Oh well. Frankly, if the Dead were up to their formerly incredibly high standards, I would consider going, but every show I have heard (except for the initial Other Ones tour after Jerry checked out) have been awfully uneven affairs and only point out that other than Phil, Jerry was pretty much the straw who stirred the drink. Ratdog? Pleaeeease. Phil and Friends have made some interesting music, Mickey too, but all in all, the thought of another half-assed run with the likeable, but WAY mismatched Warren Haynes, makes the decision to stay home very, very easy. But have fun, maybe they will pull some great shows out of their ass. I hope so for fans and the band’s sake.

I made this rant…My boyfriend and I were just messing around. Most of the people on this site got it and realized I was just over acting and being a goof ball.
But you should read some of the things people have said about me on youtube and PT BOARDS…I most of if cracks me up to the point of peeing my pants.
Especially when the dude on PT board said “I want to stick my foot up here snatch and use her as a snowshoe” hahhhhaaaa.
Most people just called me a whore, c^%&, or said I sounded fat.

Outside of bashing on Phish fans (although yes there were only mostly bunk drugs at Phish shows) I totally agree with this rant. Oh, also I don’t really want Bobby to cum on my face. But BESIDES that, I’m completely disappointed in ‘The Dead’ for this. I don’t blame them, maybe they need the money?? but I am totally disappointed. This is so completely antithetical to what (I thought?) the Dead stood for. As Frank Zappa would say, ‘Strictly Commercial’. Once the Dead (I thought) was not about the all mighty dollar, but now it appears that only those with disposable income can afford to go to these shows. And most deadhead folks that I have known aren’t necessarily really rich. I can’t agree with the previous comment on this site regarding biting the bullet and saving up for these shows. When I thought, naively as it turns out, that the good seats were going to be $60, it would have still been a tough choice to save up for these shows. For myself, my husband, and daughter that’s 180 bucks plus ticket bastard fees plus driving two hours. Personally at $100 dollars a show I wouldn’t go on principle. I can’t even listen to them right now, and previous to this their music was something I use to get through the day. Now they’re just part of everything that is really crappy in the world right now, rampant commercialism. As my husband said, there’s some fat cat promoter talking it up in a back room somewhere, comparing what all of the other sold-out bands like Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles charge for their tickets. I used to laugh and just be disgusted with these other bands, thinking they were yuppy jerks. Now I just have to feel sad that the Dead has sold out their fans in this same way.

just goes to show that true assholes only go to shows for the drugs. If you buy drugs from strangers at any show (dead, phish, wsp, dmb, umph, db….whatever) YOUR A SHITHEAD! Someone i knew bought some bunk drugs in the ratdog lot that sent him to the hospital. So by sassydouchebag’s logic then ALL ratdog/dead lots are bunk and the people in them are no better than the “phish” fans she dissed in her pathetic rant. It wasn’t the $99 tickets so much as the unfair way The Dead’s pre-sale operation played out.
Online ticket resale outlets were already posting MSG specific seating for $450-$1,500 a week before the pre-sale event.

If people didn’t buy them then they wouldn’t be selling them at $1000. Its all supply and demand. Now you know what it was like trying to get phish tickets for hampton after the scalpers hacked the system and stole those tickets away from real fans, just to sell them back to people at 9x the original prices.
