The B List: 10 Touring Jambands That Didn’t Make It Through the ’00s

3. RAQ

RAQ hasn’t exactly addressed whether they are on hiatus or have broken up, but they haven’t played any shows this year which certainly doesn’t bode well for the health of that band.

4. Addison Groove Project

After band member Brendan McGinn entered medical school in 2005, the group found it difficult to find the time to play gigs. In February of 2007, the group hit the road for a “farewell tour” and haven’t played a show since.

5. Jiggle The Handle

New England favorites Jiggle The Handle got together in the late ’80s and gained quite the name for themselves during the ’90s with their quirky originals and fun covers. The group parted ways after a performance at the Berkshire Music Festival in 2001 and played a one-off reunion show in 2007.

6. RANA

One of the more rock-oriented groups ever to be associated with jambands genre, RANA stopped touring in 2006. They play the occasional NYC-area gig including one scheduled on October 7th at Brooklyn Bowl.

7. Leftover Salmon

Colorado’s Leftover Salmon will celebrate their 20th Anniversary in December, but their days as a touring concern seem to be over. At least according to what Drew Emmitt told Chad Berndtson.

8. The Samples

Sean Kelly took to his MySpace page to announce the dissolution of The Samples in April of 2008 after a successful 20 year stint that included a spot on the 2nd H.O.R.D.E. tour in 1993.

9. Seth Yacovone Band

The Seth Yacovone Band called it quits in 2004 after nearly 1,000 performances. Led by virtuoso guitarist Seth Yacovone, the band mixed blues with rock in a unique way.

10. Percy Hill

Percy Hill formed at the University of New Hampshire way back in 1993 and quickly developed a sizable following. The group went through many lineup changes and produced a number of fantastic albums before calling it a day in 2006. The original members of the band recently announced that they will play a few shows at the Stone Church later this year.

  1. I’d say AGP was hardest hit by the death of their bassist. A sad day, what an awesome band.

Speaking of H.O.R.D.E., I for one would go see it.

  2. While in The Samples I was unable to endure the lurking thieves any longer.
Three managers in a row stole every penny that I had and tried to leave me for dead.
The business and the crooks behind the scenes drove The Samples into a stand still.
But now I have free time to hunt them down!
    Sean Kelly
    Lead singer of The Samples

  3. Bring back ULU! Does anyone remember Alta Mira from New England somewhere? Saw them at the Living Room in Providence back in ’97 and never heard from them again.

  4. I have nothing hysterical to add to this conversation.

Just thought I would point that out, so no one would miss it.

  5. The shantee, an ohio band that never quite left ohio…altho lead singer mike perkins still plays and releases albums

  6. I have seen Seth Yacovone at least 10 times he is curently in a band with Mr. charlie and Blues for Breakfast which is a dead cover band. This kid has so much potential Please get him out of a dead cover band where the only song he sings is Loose Lucy (my Fav dead tune) he rocks it all the way. I live just outside of Burlington VT on the Ny side and this kid rocks simply put can’t state it enough he rocks that guitar!

  7. I have seen the Seth Yacavone Band multiple times in the last year at The Matterhorn in Stowe Vermont. He shreds with extreme prejudice. The keyboard player is pretty good too.

  8. Let’s be honest with the Samples. They didn’t make it out of the 90’s. And I’m sorry Sean, but once Jeep left that was the last of “The Samples”. It then became the Sean Kelly Band.

  9. I seriously miss AGP, those guys brought the serious funk.

I was hoping to add Ekoostik Hookah to the list, but unfortunately I just learned they’re still playing, including a 3 day run over 4/20 in Jamaica…

  10. While the Lo Faber Band was mentioned, it is surprising God Street Wine was not. GSW was one of the best live shows of the 90’s.

  11. the best lineup of Phil & Friends I have ever seen was the Mountain Jam headlining lineup a few years ago with Molo, Campbell, Haynes, Molitz, Phil & Scofield. They fired on all cylinders with that lineup. Wish Scofield could have done more shows with that lineup. Will really miss the various Phil lineups from the past decade.

  12. The (Psychedelic) Breakfast, although they do have sets scheduled for Fusion Fest and Heads in Harmony, Tim Palmieri and Adrian Tramontano seem to be focusing on Kung Fu for the foreseeable future.

  13. Seth Yacovone still kills up in the Northern Vermont area with blues for breakfast and his solo stuff. If you get a chance check him out, one of the best guitarists out there
