The Northeast Finally Gets A Good Festival
We never thought that visiting Vineland, New Jersey — the armpit of America’s armpit — would be in our plans next summer, but yesterday’s announcement that C3 Presents will be holding a festival in Vineland puts the city square in our plans.
C3 Presents, the brains behind Lollapalooza and the Austin City Limits festival, always seem to know how to put together a varied and exciting lineup that can draw a diverse crowd. The new festie will be held on a 500-acre privately owned farm on August 8th – 10th.

Interestingly, Vineland takes place only one week removed from Lollapalooza, which means they are ultimately competing with themselves. We don’t really care about that; we’re just psyched to check out what’s sure to be an epic festival about two hours from NYC. Read on for more about Vineland…
C3 Presents originally wanted to stage the festival in Philadelphia, but they probably felt the opportunity slipping away when Live Nation attempted to win the permit C3 had spent nearly a year trying to obtain. Festival Republic, producers of the Glastonbury Festival, are working with C3 on bringing some of the elements of the European festival to Vineland. Offers are out to bands, but there has been no announcement of specific artists yet.

The biggest problem with this festival is gonna be traffic. The Atlantic City Expressway, Route 55 and Garden State Parkway are shitshows on a typical Friday afternoon in the summer, so we can’t even imagine the snarls an extra 80,000 people will cause. Luckily traffic shouldn’t be so bad on the way out if people leave late on Sunday night or after rush hour on Saturday.
But here’s the real question: Couldn’t anyone think of a name for this thing? We’re sure all of these details will be addressed ad naseum in the months to come, but for not let’s just celebrate a good festival finally coming to the area.

What no jokes about Bon Jovi headlining this thing?

I can’t wait to hear Trey interrupt a 40 minute Night Speaks to rhapsodize about growing up Jersey. Probable topics include favorite radio stations, local jingles, his “buddy” Tom, maybe even a Springsteen reference or two. It’s gonna be an epic speech for a newly h/h headliner!

lol!
I wonder if they will get Bruce.

All signs would certainly point to him being the obvious choice as a headliner.

The Glastonbury guys are involved? Then I’m sure they’ll be pushing for Kasabian and Strokes headlining spots at 20.00 and 22.00 on 15 July. And maybe they could show us yanks REAL music with Blur or Stone Roses reunions. Brilliant! Think about it! Hundreds of Americans would care! A Blur reunion would literally move two or three DOZEN more tickets!

haha.
here’s some festy name suggestions: real ones:
– Exit-to-Exodus or “E-2-E Festival” (playing off the whole New Jersey “full of exits” myth/joke)
– Kithara (greek origin of word: “guitar”)
– Gather
– Pavement-to-Pasture or the “P2P festival”
– Sick Days (a lot of us use them for festies, and/or referring to a ‘sick’ musical lineup)
– Eos festival (greek for east)
– Crops Festival
OK, that’s it. Back to work for me. It was fun to brainstorm a festival name though.
cheers. I will most likely be in attendance, based strictly on geography alone.

C’mon, the festival will probably be named after the sponsor who agrees to pay the most money.

Maybe they’ll pay moe. to write a jingle for it!
