In 1964 Ken Kesey and his cohorts collectively known as the Merry Pranksters headed out on an acid-fueled, cross-country journey to the World’s Fair in New York aboard an old converted school bus that they painted in day-glo paint and dubbed Furthur. Kesey & Co. shot the famous journey on 16MM film with the intent of making a documentary, which was started but never finished. Now some 47 years later, the footage, which had been virtually unseen, has been turned into a new documentary by Alex Gibney and Alison Ellwood called Magic Trip. Magic Trip will be released on-demand July 1 and in theaters on August 5.
