The Smashing Pumpkins were easily one of the biggest alt.rock acts of the mid-90′s, selling nearly 19 million copies of their sprawling 1995 double-disc release Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness. So the name James Iha is far from an unfamiliar one for those of us who came of age in Generation X. The singer-guitarist, who has had a tenuous relationship with Billy Corgan in recent years to put it lightly, will release Look to the Sky, his long awaited sophomore solo effort on September 18, his first since 1998.

The album, which was released earlier this year in Japan, will get its American release via The End Records, and includes appearances from the likes of Tom Verlaine (Television), Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Sara Quinn (Tegan & Sara), Adam Schlesinger (Fountains Of Wayne) and Neal Casal (Chris Robinson Brotherhood). Last week, Iha released the extremely campy, late-night Cinemax sci-fi B-movie video for the album’s swirling psychedelic-pop sounding lead single To Who Know Where. Let’s check it out…
