Video: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead @ Brooklyn Bowl

UPDATE: Photos, Recap and Audio HERE

I’ve seen a number of amazing performances thus far in 2013, but last night’s Freaks Ball XIII finale at Brooklyn Bowl featuring the debut of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead takes the cake as the best one yet. Russo and Scott Metzger, Tom Hamilton, Marco Benevento and Dave Dreiwitz offered a powerful, hard-nosed interpretation of the Grateful Dead’s music over two sets at the sold out venue.

We’ll have a full report on what was the most incredible Dead-related show I’ve experienced soon, but we wanted to share a taste of it and the setlist. Check out a few minutes of psychedelic blues as Almost Dead tackled Viola Lee Blues to end the second set last night…

I can’t agree more Scotty! Probably the best Dead influenced project I’ve seen in quite a long time! It was a fabulous time all around. Tremendous playing and all around great vibes from everyone there. I’m really looking forward to seeing and hearing this again as more footage and recordings come out (hopefully VERY soon)! I can’t say enough about the Saint Stephen>Eleven> Other One sequence. Just dripping of psychedelic goodness! This was my first Freak’s Ball and I’m never gonna miss another!
