The list of female guitar shredders is a pretty short one, but you’d have to put Marnie Stern somewhere near the top of it. The guitar-slinger, who has garnered critical praise from both Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, plays the axe with technical proficiency that rivals the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen. While those guys can strictly melt faces with guitar licks, Stern is a double-threat, parlaying her guitar prowess with a knack for writing catchy punk-infused songs.

Marnie Stern has lined up a lengthy world tour that kicks off with a gig at Oberlin College on April 9.
