A couple of weeks back, the East Coast got its first visit from the Terrapin Family Band, when the San Francisco-based outfit played a string of intimate shows at New York City’s Sullivan Hall followed by a show aboard a luxury yacht and a visit to Levon Helm Studios for a special Midnight Ramble.
The band, which featured a trio of Lesh’s – Phil, Grahame and Brian – impressively offered up a mix of Grateful Dead classics, smartly chosen covers and a handful of originals, with a distinct roots-Americana bent to them. The Terrapin Family Band has since returned back to the West Coast, where they serve as the de facto house band at Phil Lesh’s musical playground Terrapin Crossroads. Prior to their gig on Wednesday night Grahame, Brian, Ross James and Alex Koford recorded a fantastic stripped down acoustic take on the classic murder ballad Long Black Veil. Let’s check it out…
