After years of cultivating a fervent fan following, thanks in part to a reputation for putting on high energy live shows, The Avett Brothers finally broke big in 2009 with the release of their Rick Rubin-produced record I and Love and You. The record offered somewhat of a sonic shift for the Concord, North Carolina-based band, as it saw them move away from their punk-infused brand of bluegrass and embrace a more melodic, harmony-laden Americana sound. Last Tuesday, after nearly a four year wait, the Avetts released their highly anticipated Rubin-helmed follow-up The Carpenter, and have dropped this home-spun video for the record’s lead single Live and Die.
