Jam stalwarts moe. kicked off an active month of touring last night at La Zona Rosa in Austin for the first of three shows in Texas, where they’ll be supported by Great American Taxi. In the middle of yesterday’s first set GAT/Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman  sat in on mandolin with the group for a cover of The Band’s Up On Cripple Creek. It was moe.’s first performance of Cripple Creek since January 8, 2007 and only their third performance of the classic rock staple ever.

Guitarist Al Schnier also busted out his ’74 Gibson double-neck guitar for the instrumental CalifornIA and Haze in the first set. After a jam-heavy second set, moe. delivered a pair of somewhat rare tunes in Threw It All Away (with a Peter Gunn jam leading into it) and Awesome Gary for the encore.
