Warren Haynes To Receive Honorary Degree From UNCA

Asheville, North Carolina native Warren Haynes gives back to his city in many ways, the most noticeable of which is his annual Christmas Jam concerts. The yearly event has raised more than one million dollars for the Asheville Area Habitat For Humanity. As a tribute to his generosity and the success he’s achieved as a member of Gov’t Mule, the Allman Brothers Band and other acts, Haynes will be presented a honorary degree from UNC Asheville next month.

On May 11th the guitarist will receive the honorary degree at UNCA’s commencement ceremony. The event is scheduled to be held on the University Quadrangle, though rain may force it to the Kimmel Arena. We’re proud of the “hardest working man in improv rock” and glad his community has recognized his accomplishments. Renowned poet Poet Nikki Giovanni will deliver the commencement address.

  1. A fellow alum! Congratulations! And while I didn’t go to my own commencement, I’d definitely go to this one.

  2. Warren,

Your instruments, that wonderful voice and that superb guitar, inspire many of those who listen to a wonderful place. Isn’t that what higher learning should do?

    Congratulations, an honor rightfully bestowed!
