NSFW Trailer for ‘Ted 2’ Indicates More of the Same

Everyone’s favorite pot smoking, promiscuous, foul-mouthed Teddy bear is back and, if the new red band trailer is any indication, fouler than ever.

Ted 2, the sequel to Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s surprise live-action hit, hits theaters this June and finds Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) and John (Mark Walberg) engaged in an epic legal battle to declare Ted human so that he can have legal parenthood to his child with Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth).

As we can see from the trailer, Ted and John haven’t changed much. From the opening salvo, we see the two life-long besties hitting the bong and watching reruns of Law and Order while singing along with the iconic theme song. Ted then announces his plans to raise a child with his girlfriend, to the confusion of John who rightly wonders how a Teddy bear can father a child.

The answer, of course, lies in finding a sperm donor. Judging from the preview, it takes the two a while to jump to the obvious conclusion—John donating sperm to his friend—as their first idea is to break into football star Tom Brady’s house to, um, steal his sperm while he sleeps. This is admittedly pretty eye-rolling. Why anyone would jump to the idea of raping a sleeping celebrity to get their sperm without dismissing it is beyond me, but maybe it’ll be played with some tact in the final release. I doubt it, but you never know.

Also introduced are some new characters, including lawyer Samantha (Amanda Seyfried) who appears to be taking the archetypal place of Mila Kunis’ Lori from the first film, as well as a mysterious wise black man character played by Mr. Wise Black Man himself, Morgan Freeman.

Overall, Ted 2 is looking a lot like more of the same which, depending on your opinions on MacFarlane, is either great news or groan worthy. Fans of the original will no doubt flock to the theater in droves upon its release while everyone else will most likely shrug their shoulders and move on. That’s sort of the way MacFarlane has always played his shtick and, from the looks of things, that’s not changing anytime soon.

Ted 2 opens June 26 in theaters everywhere.
