49 Years Ago Today – Jimi Hendrix Performs Final Full Show (Watch Live Clips From Fehmarn)

49 years ago today (9/6/70), Jimi Hendrix played his final full-band gig when he appeared at the Isle Of Fehmarn in Germany. Hendrix and MK II line up of the Experience (with Billy Cox on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums) were originally scheduled to play on September 5th, but turbulent weather delayed their appearance to the next day. Jimi told a reporter at the festival site on the first day: “I’ll play tomorrow. Tomorrow at noon. I don’t have to, but I want to. The fans are out there in the dirt, I have to play for them. They came because of me. [Otherwise] I would have a bad conscience…”Hendrix  died 12 days later on 18th Sept 1970 after choking on his own vomit.

NOTE: on 9/16/70, Hendrix went to see his good friend Eric Burdon’s new band WAR one night and was invited on stage to play guest guitar, so this technically marks his last stage appearance.

Check out rare but spotty footage of Hendrix’s Fehmarn appearance and performance….
