54 Years Ago Today- Robert Zimmerman Legally Becomes Bob Dylan (Listen to “Only a Hobo Live ’62)

54 years ago today (8/9/62) Robert Zimmerman had his name legally changed to Bob Dylan and the word singer-songwriter has never been the same. “I’d seen some poems by Dylan Thomas,” he explained. “People had always called me either Robert or Bobby, but Bobby Dylan sounded too skittish to me. The first time I was asked my name in the Twin Cities, I instinctively and automatically, without thinking, simply said, ‘Bob Dylan’.” Listen to a young early 20’s Dylan perform his original “Only a Hobo” live in 1962.
